Yield: 1 pint
Total time: 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 3 ½ cups frozen berries of choice (chokecherries, blueberries, and cranberries are traditional, but can also use huckleberries, blackberries, and/or strawberries)
- ¼ cup water
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp maple syrup or honey (optional)
DIRECTIONS
- In a large saucepan, simmer the berries and water over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the berries begin to break down, about 25 minutes.
- Remove half the berry mixture and use an immersion blender to puree the rest. Whisk in the cornstarch, then add the un-blended berries back in and stir to combine.
- Add 1 Tbsp maple syrup or honey, if desired, but the fruit should be the main flavor.
- Serve warm with fry bread or corn bread!
