Servings: 6
Total time: 3 hours, 15 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 6 assorted apples (recommended: Honeycrisp, Gala, Rome, and Granny Smith), washed, cored, and cut into wedges
- 1 navel orange, peeled and sectioned
- 4 cinnamon sticks (or 2 tsp ground cinnamon)
- 1 Tbs whole cloves (or 2 tsp ground cloves)
- Water
- Brown sugar to taste
DIRECTIONS
- Put the apples and oranges in a crock pot. Wrap cinnamon sticks and whole cloves in a piece of cheesecloth and set inside, or just sprinkle ground spices over the fruit. Add water—enough to cover the fruit plus one inch.
- Cook on high heat for 3 hours (or on low for 7).
- If using whole spices, remove them at this point and mash the fruit with the back of a spoon or with a potato masher. Strain the liquid and discard solids.
- Taste and add brown sugar, if desired.Â
- Serve hot!
