Servings: 6

Total time: 3 hours, 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 assorted apples (recommended: Honeycrisp, Gala, Rome, and Granny Smith), washed, cored, and cut into wedges
  • 1 navel orange, peeled and sectioned
  • 4 cinnamon sticks (or 2 tsp ground cinnamon)
  • 1 Tbs whole cloves (or 2 tsp ground cloves)
  • Water
  • Brown sugar to taste

DIRECTIONS

  • Put the apples and oranges in a crock pot. Wrap cinnamon sticks and whole cloves in a piece of cheesecloth and set inside, or just sprinkle ground spices over the fruit. Add water—enough to cover the fruit plus one inch.
  • Cook on high heat for 3 hours (or on low for 7).
  • If using whole spices, remove them at this point and mash the fruit with the back of a spoon or with a potato masher. Strain the liquid and discard solids.
  • Taste and add brown sugar, if desired.
  • Serve hot!
