(Ginger) Beer Brats

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 lbs raw bratwurst sausages
  • 2 cups ginger beer 
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • 10 hoagie rolls (NOT hot dog buns)
  • Spicy brown mustard to taste

DIRECTIONS

  • In a large stockpot over medium heat, melt the butter, then add the onions and sautee until tender. Add the bratwursts and top with ginger beer and water. 
  • Bring to a boil, then lower heat to simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. 
  • Remove bratwursts but leave the onions simmering for later.
  • Lightly oil the grate of an outdoor grill or stovetop griddle and heat to medium-high.
  • Cook the bratwursts about 10 to 15 minutes, turning occasionally, until evenly browned.
  • Serve on hoagie rolls with reserved onions and spicy brown mustard.
