Servings: 2
Total time: 20 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 2 Tbs butter, softened, divided
- ½ honey crisp or gala apple, thinly sliced
- 2 Tbs maple syrup
- Dash of apple pie spice
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 8 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
DIRECTIONS
- Melt 1 Tbs butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced apples and cook until slightly browned and softened, about 5 minutes.
- Lower heat to medium-low and add maple syrup and apple pie spice. Stir to coat the apples, and continue to gently cook until apples are softened and caramelized. Set aside, and clean out the skillet.
- Butter one side of each bread slice. On each sandwich, layer cheese and apples, then sprinkle with bacon crumbles and top with more cheese. Top with second slice of bread, butter up.
- Toast the sandwiches over medium-low heat until bread is browned and cheese is melted, about 4 minutes per side.
- Cut sandwiches into halves and serve hot!
