Servings: 4
Total time: 1 hour
INGREDIENTS
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 Tbs sugar
- 1 Tbs baking powder
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 2 ½ Tbs butter, room temperature
- 1 cup water
- 1 ½ cups vegetable oil for frying
DIRECTIONS
- Whisk the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Add the butter and work it in until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
- Add water and mix until it forms a shaggy dough.
- Knead the dough on a lightly-floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Put the dough in a bowl, cover, and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- In the meantime, heat the oil in a large skillet.
- Form the dough into balls about the size of your palm, then roll them out to discs about 4 inches in diameter. Pierce each disc several times with a fork.
- Fry the dough until golden brown. Drain on paper towels, then serve warm with butter and honey!
