Servings: 4

Total time: 1 hour

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbs sugar
  • 1 Tbs baking powder
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 ½ Tbs butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ½ cups vegetable oil for frying

DIRECTIONS

  • Whisk the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Add the butter and work it in until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
  • Add water and mix until it forms a shaggy dough.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly-floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  • Put the dough in a bowl, cover, and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  • In the meantime, heat the oil in a large skillet.
  • Form the dough into balls about the size of your palm, then roll them out to discs about 4 inches in diameter. Pierce each disc several times with a fork.
  • Fry the dough until golden brown. Drain on paper towels, then serve warm with butter and honey!
