Sausage Gravy

INGREDIENTS
- 1 (12 oz) package maple-flavored sausage
- 3 Tbs butter
- ΒΌ cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
- In a large, deep skillet, brown the sausage over medium-high heat.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the sausage from the pan, leaving the drippings.
- Melt the butter in with the sausage drippings.
- Add the flour and whisk to make a roux. Reduce the heat to medium and cook until light brown.
- Whisk in the milk gradually and bring to a gentle boil, stirring often, until thickened.
- Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the cooked sausage, reduce the heat, and simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Serve hot over buttermilk biscuits.
