Sausage Gravy

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 (12 oz) package maple-flavored sausage
  • 3 Tbs butter
  • ΒΌ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS

  • In a large, deep skillet, brown the sausage over medium-high heat.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the sausage from the pan, leaving the drippings. 
  • Melt the butter in with the sausage drippings. 
  • Add the flour and whisk to make a roux. Reduce the heat to medium and cook until light brown.
  • Whisk in the milk gradually and bring to a gentle boil, stirring often, until thickened. 
  • Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add the cooked sausage, reduce the heat, and simmer for about 15 minutes. 
  • Serve hot over buttermilk biscuits.
