Country-Style Green Beans

Total time: 1 hour, 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb fresh green beans, rinsed, ends trimmed, and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ cup white onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 4 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 Tbs butter
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS

  • In a large pot, melt the butter.
  • Add the onion, garlic, and bacon, and cook for about 5 minutes, until the onion becomes translucent and the bacon starts to crisp.
  • Add the beef broth and bring to a boil. 
  • Add the red pepper flakes and beans.
  • Cover and lower the heat to simmer for about 1 hour. Check for desired tenderness and cook longer if necessary. 
  • Season with salt and pepper and serve!
